Library Program and Collection

HDS students have over 7,000 volumes to choose from, thanks in large measure to the generosity of friends of Sunnie Tait z”l, a former teacher and librarian who sadly died in 2002. The library has a substantial collection of Hebrew books, including an up-to-date large collection of Israeli fiction for young children. We also have a large collection of children’s videos in Hebrew.

Parents play an important role in the library in several different ways. First, the library is staffed in large measure by parent volunteers; send an email to volunteer. Second, parents play a crucial role in building the school library when they participate in the HDS birthday book club, a program that helps the school to continue buying wonderful books. For a donation of $18, the school purchases a beautiful hardbound book, inserts a bookplate commemorating a child’s birthday, and officially presents the book to the student in front of the child’s class. Books can also be dedicated for other life events, with acknowledgements sent promptly by mail to the honoree or family member from the library.
