POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Head of School, the Business Manager is a senior, school-based leadership role that oversees day-to-day and ongoing strategic financial planning and management, in support of the School’s mission. This person handles the school’s financial recordkeeping, financial transactions, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliation of bank statements, preparation of reports for the Board, and completion of annual tax forms. The Business Manager participates actively in the administrative work associated with the school’s fundraising and development activities. The Business Manager reports to the Head of School. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include:

● Strategic leadership, analysis, and management of the School’s finances
● In consultation with the Head of School, creating, administering, monitoring, and adapting the School’s strategic financial plan, operating budgets, facilities and technology planning, and other financial matters
● Preparing monthly operating statements for the Head of School, finance committee, and Board of Trustees; financial statements and schedules; reports as requested by the Board and Head of School
● Evaluation and improvement of financial systems, operations, and controls
● Managing accounts receivable and payable
● Managing the timely and accurate filing of all required financial reports in accordance with GAAP and in compliance with IRS and other regulatory standards and requirements; assisting accountants with tax return and audit
● Human resource management including: payroll and benefits program, employee data collection and reporting, letters of intent and contracts for employees, calculating benefits (salary, benefits including vacation days, insurance, retirement, etc.), keeping track of time off for employees/time sheets, distributing and processing paperwork for new hires
● Administrative functions associated with fundraising and development: preparation of financial documents in connection with grant proposals and gift requests (history, budgets, forecasts, etc); track progress of endowments and manage draws; manage donor database, generate gift receipts, track and manage long term pledges, research potential grants
● Supporting and contributing to a culture that encourages inclusiveness, teamwork, and customer service
● Performing other duties assigned by the Head of School

Skills and Qualifications
Education

● Degree in accounting or related field, MBA and/or CPA desired

Experience

● 5 years of relevant financial and administrative experience, specifically in nonprofit ● Familiarity with school operations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

● Ability to think analytically and strategically; excellent problem-solving skills ● Experience with Quickbooks and payroll systems
● Demonstrated technological competence with word processing, accounting software, spreadsheet, and internet functions
● Customer service oriented approach
● Meticulous accuracy, attention to detail, and patience
● Demonstrated knowledge of accounting practices, as well as project and budget management specific to schools
● Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
● The ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of constituents and treat them fairly and respectfully
● Ability to work independently while maintaining the highest professional standards
● Excellent organizational skills; ability to establish and manage multiple priorities; ability to work under pressure
● Willingness to pitch in wherever necessary

Compensation:

● Salary range $75,000 – $85,000
